—10-YEAR HOUSING PLAN—Alameda County needs to construct more than 93,000 units of affordable housing, according to its soon-to-be published 10-year housing plan.
—But the cost of fulfilling this goal over the next decade is $27 billion, Alameda County Housing Director Michelle Starratt told a Board of Supervisors Health Committee this week.
—“Obviously we don’t have $27 billion,” she said. “That is an insurmountable number in this moment, but it’s a goal that we can work to.”
—Approving Regional Measure 4, the Bay Area-wide housing bond on the November ballot, however, is a good starting point, Starratt added.
—If approved by Bay Area voters, Alameda County will receive $2 billion for the creation and preservation of affordable housing.
—Separately, Oakland is in line to receive its own $765 million allotment.
