Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle is facing serious health issues
San Leandro to apologize for its past history of housing discrimination
COUNTY NEWS
—VALLE AILING—Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle has not been regularly seen at public events for about a month. Valle, who represents Hayward, Newark, Union City, and portion of Fremont on the Alameda County Board of Supervisors is battling a serious health condition, according to multiple sources.
—“Supervisor Valle underwent procedures and is receiving treatment and focusing on his health at this time,” said Ginny DeMartini, Valle’s district director. Valle is still attending some virtual meetings during his recovery, DeMartini added.
—Valle, 72, was appointed to the District 2 seat in 2011 following the resignation of Nadia Lockyer, and was elected to his first full term in 2012. Valle won re-election this June while running unopposed. Prior to his rise in county politics, Valle was a long-time Union City councilmember.
—Over the past month, Valle’s attendance at Board of Supervisors meetings has been spotty. A long string of board votes include Valle listed as “excused.” Questions about Valle’s health were heightened last week when he was absent from the board’s budget meeting. The passing of the fiscal year budget is one of the most important votes on the board’s legislative calendar.
