—RENT ORDINANCES DUE—A package of significant protections for renters in unincorporated Alameda County is heading to the full Alameda County Board of Supervisors.

The three proposed ordinance coming to the Board of Supervisors include:
Fair Chance Housing Ordinance: Limits some information that landlords can ask prospective tenants. For example, if they have an arrest record.
Just Cause Eviction Ordinance: Allows landlords to evict tenants, but only for a set of specifics issues. For example, for non-payment of rent and illegal activity.
Rental Registry: Allows the county to monitor rental activity. The county says a the number of registered rental units in unincorporated Alameda County is much lower than the overall supply.
—At the committee level, Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley, whose district covers a large section of the unincorporated areas, has consistently voiced displeasure with the trio of proposed ordinances, especially against just cause protections. Meanwhile, Supervisor Dave Brown, who also represents the unincorporated areas, has been supportive of the package of ordinances.
