ALAMEDA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
—RETURN VOLLEY—A day after an independent expenditure committee backed by the Alameda County Prosecutors Association disclosed it had spent $30,000 on television and web ads to oppose Pamela Price’s bid for Alameda County District Attorney, an IE in support of Price reported spending $8,550 on mailers.
—The IE with the nondescript name, Independent Expenditure Supporting Price for District Attorney 2022,” is believed to be the committee financially backed by John Bauer, the father of a mentally ill son killed by Pleasanton Police in 2018. Bauer sued and was later awarded a $5.9 million settlement from the city.
—Although the IE is labeled as supporting Price, the nature of the mailers is not yet known. In 2018, an IE in support of Price’s DA campaign against Nancy O’Malley, and funded by George Soros, was highly negative toward the current DA.
—As reported here yesterday, get ready for barrages of nastiness to highlight this race over the next six weeks. And if it goes to a November runoff? Oh, man. Hold tight!
—UNION DIS—It may not be a good sign for an East Bay candidate when a notable labor official disses your campaign. To say it nicely, Eddie Alvarez of the Alameda County Building Trades expressed on Twitter his dissatisfaction with the idea of Pamela Price becoming the next DA. Price said his sentiment was harsh.
