—FIFE FEELS DISRESPECTED—The Oakland Athletics are still sidestepping Oakland Councilmember Carroll Fife, whose district includes Howard Terminal, and now, so is Oakland Councilmember Noel Gallo. On Thursday, Fife lashed out against Gallo’s attempt to schedule a city council agenda item that aimed to gather additional information about specific impacts of the A’s waterfront ballpark proposal at Howard Terminal.
—“I also want to encourage individuals—like I have encouraged the Oakland A’s—to consult with the councilmember for the district about these things because I am representing the hundred, if not thousands of voices that live and work in District 3,” Fife said at Thursday’s Oakland City Council Rules and Legislation Committee meeting.
—“It seems like everyone is disrespecting the role that I play in this project. I would really hope that moving forward there is some consideration for my role in moving this process forward,” she said. Fife has repeatedly referenced the A’s disregard for meeting with her to the point of begging.

—Fife did not specifically mention Gallo during her comments, but the reference was clear. Fife later said she will attempt to work with Gallo on this issue in the future. Last month, Fife similarly criticized East Oakland Councilmember Treva Reid for attempting to insert herself in the West Oakland ballpark discussion.
—Gallo’s proposal appears to have jumped the gun. “We agree that Councilmember Gallo’s request for information on cost-benefits is critical to share with the public and our decisionmakers,” said Betsy Lake, Oakland assistant city manager and a point person on the Howard Terminal ballpark project.
—The ballpark’s impacts were studied last year, she noted. But she added, negotiations between the city administration and A’s need to be complete in order to adequately offer full fiscal impacts of the project. Gallo’s proposed agenda item was later placed on the Rules Committee’s pending list.
