Barbara Lee likely headed to victory in Oakland mayor's race
Lee overtakes Taylor in latest election update on Friday
OAKLAND SPECIAL ELECTION
MAYOR
—VOTERS SPEAK FOR LEE—Barbara Lee erased an election night deficit and then some after a large tranche of ballots vaulted her to a commanding lead on Friday in Oakland’s special mayoral election.
—After vote-counting concluded on Tuesday night, Lee trailed Loren Taylor by more than 1,200 first-place votes.
—Late-arriving mail-in ballots, though, boosted Lee to a lead of 4,769 votes over Taylor, according to results updated by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters on Friday afternoon.
—The total puts Lee at 50.06 percent, just over the simple majority needed to avoid ranked choice voting tabulations.
—However, when they are added to the totals, Lee advantage slightly increases to 52.69 percent of the vote to Taylor’s 47.31 percent.
