84 days to Primary Day
ALAMEDA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS - DIST. 5
—DEADLINE DAY—Oakland Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas joined the quickly growing primary for Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson’s seat in District 5, just one day away from today’s extended 5 p.m. filing deadline.
—The move comes as it becomes increasingly unlikely that state Sen. Nancy Skinner will file for the seat. Skinner is termed out of the state senate at the end of the next year.
—Bas would be the biggest benefactor from Skinner not being in the primary field.
—If the current field of candidates hold, it’s likely crucial labor support would mostly shift from Skinner to Bas.
—Six candidates have pulled papers in the Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, and Piedmont seat, as of Tuesday night.
—They include Emeryville Councilmember John Bauters, Berkeley Councilmember Ben Bartlett, and Bas.
—Omar Farmer, an Alameda County Veterans Affairs commissioner; Gerald Pechenuk, an Alameda County Republican Central Committee member; and Lorrel Plimier, a director for the Piedmont League of Women Voters, have also filed.
