☕️MORNING BUZZ

—Welcome to the 900th issue of the East Bay Insiders Newsletter!

—The second Trump presidency is just days away. Last month, Gov. Gavin Newsom and state legislators allocated $50 million to

“Trump-proof” California. Attorney General Rob Bonta pledged a legal bulwark for the state.

—At the local level, several Alameda County cities have sought to calm fearful immigrant populations by reiterating their status as sanctuary cities.

—On Tuesday, Alameda County Supervisor Nikki Fortunato Bas began the process of adding some steel to comments she made last week about defending the county against any attempt by the Trump administration to adversely affect residents.

—Questions about potential impacts on San Leandro, along with ideas for counteracting Trump, were posed by some councilmembers during a discussion with their state and federal consultants.

—Fake news on Facebook about U.S. Immigration and Customs agents toiling in Hayward led officials last Friday to set the record completely straight.

—And on Saturday, a march is planned in Alameda to reaffirm support for the types of policies that Trump does not support.

—More inside:

  • County officials believe a deal to assign OAC/AASEG as the buyer of its half-interest in the Oakland Coliseum complex is near.

  • Alameda County’s Election Commission needs help, and they want the registrar to pay for it.

  • L.A. wildfires are providing fuel for reopening Oakland fire stations

  • Fremonters again protest city council’s encampment ban, but those impacted by homeless activity also voiced their side.

  • People’s March is planned this weekend in Alameda.
