DA Pamela Price: Rep. Eric Swalwell is critical of me because I'm a Black woman
Alameda County releases fiscal year budget shortfall; Fremont looks to dip into budget reserve fund; Oakland unions want biz taxes collected; A's fans already dim hopes are further trampled
COUNTY NEWS
DISTRICT ATTORNEY
—TWEET FOR TAT—Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price wrote in a social media posting on Monday that Rep. Eric Swalwell’s recent criticism of her office is due to her being a Black woman.
—The posting on Price’s personal account on X comes a day before the Alameda County Board of Supervisors will set a date for her recall election.
—Last Friday, Swalwell quoted a news story on his congressional account on X about an armed robbery against a mail carrier in Dublin.
—“A letter carrier robbed in broad daylight! Soft on crime Alameda County prosecutors have given the bad guys a green light to hurt people,” Swalwell wrote.
—“People of the East Bay have never felt as unsafe as they do today and are leaving our community in droves. We need a rule of law.”
—Swalwell has made oblique references in the past few months to Price’s administration being soft on crime, but never by name.
—“Since when did Rep. Swalwell start blaming the Alameda County DA for mail carrier robberies in the East Bay?” Price wrote. “When Alameda County residents historically elected the first Black woman as District Attorney, that’s when!”
—In the comments, Price added several links to news stories detailing the robberies of mail carriers during former Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley’s tenure.
—Swalwell’s allegiance to O’Malley, Price’s predecessor, is clear.
—He worked as prosecutor in O’Malley’s office and their affinity for each other has been unwavering. When Swalwell’s kicked off his presidential campaign in 2019, O’Malley offered introductory remarks.
—Price’s antipathy for O’Malley is also clear.
—Price has seemingly never forgotten the dominant defeat she was dealt by O’Malley in the 2018 election. During Price’s successful campaign for DA four years later against Terry Wiley, there were moments when it appeared Price was still running against O’Malley.
