—NO TAKE BACKS—Parents and activists occupying Oakland’s Parker Elementary since last June in protest of its closure tussled last week with security guards employed by the school district.
—Oakland Councilmember Carroll Fife, who parlayed her involvement in the Moms 4 Housing movement in West Oakland three years ago into a seat on the city council, tweeted about the altercation last Friday.
—“Since things have definitely escalated—the organizing/organizers must do the same.” But the tweet was later deleted by Fife, a noted opponent of OPD.
—Some city officials, however, were disturbed by what appeared to them as a sitting councilmember inciting the protesters.
—According to Oakland insiders the reason for the deleted tweet came at the urging of Oakland Police Chief Leronne Armstrong. Upset by the sentiment of the tweet, Armstrong urged Fife to remove it from Twitter, and she complied with his request.
