ALAMEDA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS - DISTRICT 5
—KILLER B’S—Nine candidates will vie to replace Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson in District 5.
—The Mar. 5 primary field is dominated by councilmembers, and does not include the presumptive favorite, termed out state Sen. Nancy Skinner.
—Oakland Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas, Emeryville Councilmember John Bauters, and Berkeley Councilmember Ben Bartlett top the list of candidates.
—Alameda County Board of Education Trustee Ken Berrick joined the field on Wednesday, hours before yesterday’s 5 p.m. extended filing deadline.
—Carson, who has served on the board since 1992, announced last Friday that he would not seek re-election next year.
—The move made just prior to the original Dec. 8 filing deadline, triggered a flurry of phone calls to supporters and sent prospective candidates scrabbling to lay the groundwork for their primary campaigns.
