East Bay political races are awash in money as the home stretch to June begins
Former A's co-owner Lew Wolff gave to Rebecca Kaplan, and then the money was refunded
ELECTION 2022
—ELECTION MODE—The stretch run to the June 7 primary election starts now. A few campaigns in the East Bay are beginning to put out all the stops in the past few days.
—Jimmie Wilson (Alameda County District Attorney race); Rebecca Kaplan (Alameda County Board of Supervisors); Aisha Wahab and Lily Mei (10th State Senate District); and Liz Ortega and Shawn Kumagai (20th Assembly District) are all making late runs.
— JIMMIE MAKES A MOVE—Alameda County District Attorney candidate Jimmie Wilson is making a big late move for a shot at the November runoff election. Wilson’s campaign reported five contributions totaling $140,000 over the weekend.
—Joe Saunders, the former chairman of Visa and now venture capitalist at Green Visor Capitol, and his wife, each gave Wilson $20,000. Peter Berg, a vice president at a San Francisco data security company, and his wife, each gave $35,000 to Wilson. AB Group, LLC, a Livermore company, contributed another $35,000.
—The steep uptick in contributions to Wilson suggests the campaign believes they are within striking distance of a spot in the likely top two November runoff. Few believe a candidate in the DA’s race will receive a majority of the votes in June.
