—RENT DUE—It’s May 1, the predicted beginning of the “eviction tsunami” in Alameda County. The county’s three-year-plus eviction moratorium, however, actually ended Sunday morning.
—This means landlords can begin delivering three-day eviction notices, if they choose, beginning a process that could lead to evictions and cases in small claims court down the line.
—Housing advocates and county staff estimate that evidence of a steep increase in evictions could emerge as early as mid-May. However, Oakland’s recently approved July 15 ending date for its eviction moratorium could push a more fulsome snapshot of the moratorium’s impacts on renters to mid-summer.
—LANDLORDS PRESSER—Small-time landlords in San Leandro will again register their disenchantment with the city’s eviction moratorium extension, believed to be the longest in the nation.
