COUNTY NEWS

D2 APPOINTMENT

—MARCH MADNESS—The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will interview five prospective candidates hoping to be late Supervisor Richard Valle’s successor in the Hayward and Tri-Cities District 2 seat.

—Hayward Councilmember Elisa Marquez, Fremont Councilmember Teresa Keng, and Ariana Casanova, a representative for SEIU Local 1021, advanced to the Mar. 28 interview round.

—Each candidate received first round support from all four county supervisors on Tuesday evening.

—However, very little was gleaned from the vote. The county supervisors avoided offering any hints about any of the candidates.

—A second round of voting yielded two other interview candidates. Hayward Mayor Mark Salinas and Harris Mojadedi, a Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Board Trustee, also advanced with support from three of the four supervisors.

—Tom Wong, a Hayward businessman and likely most conservative applicant in the field, received support from Supervisors Nate Miley and David Haubert, but fell a vote short of advancing to the interview round.

—Jason Matthew Miguel, a candidate last year for Newark mayor, failed to receive a single vote in two rounds of voting.
