—ESCAPE ARTIST—Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao attended the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s (MTC) meeting in San Francisco on Wednesday to approve placing a regional $20 billion ballot measure for new housing on the November ballot.
—When she arrived, a scrum of television cameras were ready to document her every move. Coming up on a week after FBI agents raided her home, and days after a populist and conspiratorial rant to reporters, the attention is clearly getting to Thao.
—In the middle of the MTC meeting, Thao got up and left the room, leaving her belongings behind. However, never returned to the meeting.
—A staffer approached Thao’s seat and picked up her belongings and left the room, leading the cameramen to scurry after the aide.
