FREMONT
—ONE FOR THE THUMB—Fremont Councilmember Jenny Kassan resigned on Thursday in order to spend more time helping her husband win the mayor’s office this fall.
—Kassan filed a letter of resignation with the Fremont city clerk on Thursday.
—She becomes the fifth councilmember in Alameda County to abruptly resign from office in the last nine months.
—She has two years remaining on her current term. After the August recess, the Fremont City Council will decide an appointment process to fill the District 3 seat.
—Kassan told KQED that a combination of work and increased attention to issues facing the city led her to quit the office she has held since 2018.
—The mayoral candidacy of former Fremont Councilmember Vinne Bacon, Kassan’s husband, was also a factor leading Kassan to resign, she told KQED
—However, Kassan won her seat in 2018 while Bacon was also on the council. They served two years together on the council.
—While there were some concerns of pillow talk between the married councilmembers, there were no indiscretions reported while they served together.
—In a more high-profile, citywide campaign, however, a potential mayor-councilmember duo, may have become a campaign issue.
