—Fremont, like much of the region and state, is feeling a case of the red, white, and blues. That’s because Fremont’s Fourth of July parade is cancelled for this year.

The non-profit that operates the annual parade announced the postponement on Sunday.

“Due to some challenges, and moreover, a team member facing a serious health issue, we have made the difficult decision to postpone this year's parade,” the non-profit’s board of directors said in a statement.

“While we won't be celebrating with a parade on Paseo Padre Parkway in 2025, our commitment to the community remains strong.”

Fremont’s Fourth of July parade is not funded by the city, although it was allocated $30,990 from the city’s special events sponsorship program.

The Fourth of July Parade is one of 13 special events in Fremont that draw from the program’s $350,000 annual budget. With the parade on hiatus for a year, the Fremont City Council on Tuesday night redirected the allocation back to the general fund.

Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan said he hoped a smaller-scale, alternative event could be organized by the city, but since the issue was not included on Tuesday’s agenda, the council could not discuss the matter, according to the city attorney.

Relations between the non-profit and the city, however, appear to be strained.

Patriotic parade-watchers can still get their Fourth of July fix in Alameda next month.
