Here comes the money. Here comes the candidates.
The Alameda County supervisorial primary band is getting back together
ELECTION 2022
ALAMEDA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
—CAMPAIGN CASH BAIL—Alameda County District Attorney candidate Terry Wiley had no problem raising more than $500,000 in the run-up to last June’s primary. However, Wiley finished 15 points in the rearview mirror of Pamela Price’s campaign, but early signs show he will again have a financial advantage in the fall.
—In a sign that donors are beginning to resume their check-writing to candidates in state and countywide races, Wiley reported nearly $26,000 in fundraising on Wednesday, according to campaign finance records.
—The ability to attract large contributions is strong in this race since the county’s maximum total donation per individual is $40,000. (For county supervisors the maxed-out limit is $20,000.)
—Wiley received a $20,000 contribution from Pastie Kao of Oakland, according to campaign records. Assemblymember Bill Quirk also added $1,000 on Wednesday. Since Quirk announced his retirement last December, he has opened his campaign purse strings early and often, giving generously to many local candidates. This contribution, however, appears to be from his own pocket.
—In addition, five separate $999 donations were made to Wiley’s campaign by way of Eden Realty of San Lorenzo and variations of Eden Realty. It’s possible that Wiley’s campaign made a filing error in this case. That’s because the donor may not have wanted to be identified this quickly. Contributions of $1,000 or more are required to be reported within 24 hours, meaning these five contributions could have waited until the next official reporting period to be posted.
—MONEYBALL—Other large campaign contributions filed on Wednesday:
—Liz Ortega-Toro (20th Assembly District), Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1555 PAC, $2,500; Buffy Wicks (14th Assembly District), Zillow, $1,500.
