—THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR—Igor Tregub is leading the Berkeley City Council special election in District 4 with a little help from an ally.
—Tregub, the chair of the Alameda County Democratic Party, leads the four-candidate race after three rounds of ranked choice voting tabulations on Tuesday night over Elana Auerbach.
—Tregub also received the most first-place votes.
—Early results show voters that backed Ruben Hernández Story also selected Tregub as their second choice, boosting Tregub to a simple majority of votes.
—A similar dynamic bumped Elana Auerbach, via second-place votes from Soli Alpert, over Hernández Story into second place after ranked choice voting tabulations.
