—MOVING ON UP?—Rep. Barbara Lee’s name is being floated for a position to President Biden’s cabinet.
—Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass told NBC News on Tuesday that she believes Lee is a perfect fit to become the administration’s next Housing and Urban Development (HUD) secretary.
—Marcia Fudge resigned from the post last month. Adrienne Todman is currently the acting HUD secretary.
—After serving the East Bay since 1990, including the last 26 years in congress, Lee is looking for a landing spot after failing to finish in the top two U.S. Senate primary last month.
—If Lee is selected to serve in Biden’s cabinet, the move would trigger a special election in the East Bay for her seat in the 12th congressional district.
—A short-term election would greatly favor Lee’s presumed successor, BART Board Director Lateefah Simon, who dominated the nine-candidate March Primary with more than a majority of the vote.
—Over the past decade, Lee has been linked to several promotions in government, be it ambassadorships or other roles in the Democratic Party and previous administrations. Though, each time her ambitions were thwarted.
—RO, RUH!—Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate called out Rep. Ro Khanna on Tuesday in a lengthy social media post.
—Nicole Shanahan, who was announced as Kennedy’s vice presidential nominee last month at an event in Oakland, said Khanna privately encouraged her to accept the VP position, only to reverse himself in a public letter.
