ELECTION 2024
U.S. SENATE
—CASEN POLL—The Los Angeles Times has a poll out that places Rep. Adam Schiff atop the nascent field of U.S. Senate candidates. Naturally, Schiff’s campaign trumpeted the survey on Thursday afternoon.
Adam Schiff 22%
Katie Porter 20%
Barbara Lee 6%
Ro Khanna 4%
Undecided 39%
—The poll leans heavily toward the two Southern California candidates—Schiff and Porter—over the East Bay’s Lee and Khanna, who has not made an official announcement about his intentions to run for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s open seat in 2024.
—However, the big takeaway here is the 39 percent of those surveyed that are undecided, which is understandable since the 2024 primary is just over one year away.
—A second poll in the U.S. Senate is expected to be released this afternoon.
12TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
—RE-BUFFED—East Bay Assemblymember Buffy Wicks appeared toying with the idea of running for Rep. Barbara Lee’s now open congressional seat. Wicks, who has served the 14th Assembly District since 2018, is saying she wants to stay put.
—Wicks was quite clear that she has no interest in seeking the CA12 seat in 2024, she told Politico on Thursday. However, the local political Hot Stove is chatting up whether she is instead looking at state Sen. Nancy Skinner’s termed out seat in the 7th District.
—It’s too bad Wicks isn’t interested in CA12. I think she would have won it. Someone like Assemblymember Mia Bonta, who is showing interest for the seat, would greatly benefit with having Wicks cleared from the field.
—There’s no evidence that the Bontas moved to clear Wicks from this field, but they certainly did so for Mia Bonta’s special election assembly run in 2021. It’s something to watch here. If Attorney General Rob Bonta gives you a call about the CA12 race, send me the tip. ;)
—ISLAND CANDIDATE—Alameda Councilmember Tony Daysog May soon receive a personal call from the attorney general. Daysog tell the East Bay Insiders that he is planning to run in CA12.
"As a three-time vice mayor of Alameda, I know this District well. I grew up here, and even got an early start years ago as student body president of Encinal High School in Alameda's West End,” Daysog said in an email.
—“So, yes, I am running since Congressmember Barbara Lee's decision to run for US Senate has opened-up this Congressional seat."
