ELECTION 2024
U.S. SENATE
—NEW POLL—Katie Porter and Adam Schiff are leading a still tight U.S. Senate primary, according to a poll by Berkeley IGS, although 30 percent of respondents remain undecided.
—Barbara Lee’s polling numbers improved by two points over a poll conducted in August, but the East Bay congressmember still lags behind the pack and trails the newcomer to the race—baseball great and Republican Steve Garvey.
BERKELEY IGS POLL*
Katie PORTER-D 17%
Adam SCHIFF-D 16%
Steve GARVEY-R 10%
Barbara LEE-D 9%
James BRADLEY-R 7%
Eric EARLY-R 4%
Lexi REESE-D 1%
Christina PASCUCCI-D 1%
OTHERS 5%
UNDECIDED 30%
*Poll was conducted Oct. 24-30 among 6,342 registered voters, weighted subsample of 4,506 likely voters.
—For Lee, the survey is much of the same. Similar to previous polling this year, Lee’s campaign remains strong among voters in the San Francisco Bay Area, African Americans, and those under 40-years-old.
—On the flip side, Lee continues to struggle in Southern California and the Central Valley, and older voters in general.
—One other interesting tidbit in this poll is that Lee is nowhere near viewed as the most “strongly liberal” or “somewhat liberal” candidate in the field.
—Porter’s 36 percent from “strongly liberal” respondents was more than double Lee’s 17 percent. Schiff received 36 percent support from “somewhat liberal” respondents as opposed to Lee’s 16 percent.
