—BONTA BOMBSHELL—Oakland Assemblymember Mia Bonta issued an extremely private admission that she once had an abortion after graduating from college. Bonta made the statement at a press conference on Tuesday about the impacts on women of color if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade sometime this summer.
—“Coming out of Yale with my very first job, I found out that I was pregnant and I had to weigh all of the decisions that came with that reality and I chose to get an abortion. I chose to own my body,” The decision was also intended to “break a cycle of poverty” in her family.
—Mia Bonta added that while making the decision to have an abortion decades ago, her future husband, California Attorney General Rob Bonta held her hand. Rob Bonta’s campaign has made a considerable push recently to highlight his support of abortion rights during a primary election in which his main challengers are a Republican and No Party Preference candidate.
