Alameda County District Attorney candidate Pamela Price was greatly outspent last spring and handily won the primary.

ELECTION 2022

CAMPAIGN FINANCE REPORTS

—MONEYBALL—Yesterday, we looked at the lay of the land for this November’s big Alameda County District Attorney race between Pamela Price and Terry Wiley.

—Price racked up a sizable 15-point win last June in a four-person race. The numbers suggest the November General Election will be tight. So, how might these candidates fund their bids to become the first Black DA in Alameda County history?

—Keep this in mind: During the entire election cycle, going back to last year, Wiley and June primary candidate Jimmie Wilson spent a whopping $1.1 million to finish a distant second and third to Price. That’s an amazing number, especially since Price only spent $304,000 for the election cycle.

—Over the last few weeks of the June primary campaign, Price spent a paltry $16,000. Clearly, Alameda County voters already know Price from several other campaigns over the years.

—It’s unlikely Price’s campaign coffers will swell much during the fall campaign. She may not need it. Many observers of this race expect wealthy progressive activist George Soros to make his mark in favor of Price. Soros spent some money in the primary to support the re-election of nearby Contra Costa County DA Diana Becton, but sat out Price’s race. But Soros spent in favor of Price during the 2018 DA race against Nancy O’Malley.

—The worry for Wiley is whether his big donors will pony up yet again. Because of the county’s $40,000 campaign finance limit, most of Wiley’s big donors probably still have room to spend before hitting the maximum. Some, however, will have to be convinced that he can win in November.

—Independent Expenditure Committees will probably spend to support Wiley and oppose Price in the fall. Outgoing Alameda County Sheriff Greg Ahern has $35,000 in campaign funds left over that he could use for an IE. Know this: There is a number of special interests groups that will do whatever they can to thwart Price from ever becoming DA.

—Below is the most recent campaign finance reports for Alameda County DA, Sheriff, and the Board of Supervisors District 3 race:
