AASEG affiliate asked Board of Supervisors to postpone indefinitely a vote on Coliseum deal with the A's; Regional tribalism at MTC; Jenkins for acting Oakland mayor?
COUNTY NEWS
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
—BOBBITT BETTER HAVE MY MONEY—There was a disconnect between public comments offered at Tuesday’s Alameda County Board of Supervisors meeting by members of the African American Sports & Entertainment Group (AASEG) and a closed session move by its affiliate, the Oakland Acquisition Company (OAC).
—Three members of AASEG, including its spokesman Ray Bobbitt, urged county leaders to move ahead with assigning the group its place in the disposition agreement with the A’s to purchase half of the Coliseum Complex.
—Instead, OAC asked the county to ice the vote indefinitely, according to a closed session read out on Tuesday.
—“At request of OAC, your board has agreed to not vote on the consent of the assignment at your meeting on Dec. 17, and delay that vote until a time in the future,” said Andrea Weddle, senior deputy county counsel.
—In the meantime, county staff will continue negotiations with the parties.
—OAC is an affiliate, created in August, that combines AASEG and Loop Capital, the project’s investment broker, which further confuses the board’s granting of OAC’s request on Tuesday.
—Meanwhile, AASEG’s bid for Oakland’s undivided half of the Coliseum property continues to be uncertain amid the city’s budget woes. AASEG has paid Oakland just $5 million of the $110 million sale price for the Coliseum property. The latest timeframe for full payment of Oakland’s half-interest is mid-year 2025.
—Delays and moving of goalposts has been hallmark of AASEG’s dealings with city and county for both halves of the Coliseum complex.
