OAKLAND
—BALLOTMEASUREPALOOZA—Oakland voters got lucky during the June primary. Just one ballot measure was up for consideration. Apparently, it was the calm before the storm.
—On Tuesday, the Oakland City Council voted to place two measures on the November ballot. Next month, up to five more could be added to the mix, including a controversial “advisory” ballot measure for the Howard Terminal ballpark project.
—The ballot measures approved or pending approval by the Oakland City Council for the fall ballot include non-citizens voting in school board elections, non-gendered terms in the City Charter, city council term limits, the Emerald New Deal, expanding just cause protections, and a $850 million general obligation bond. Of course, Oakland and, especially, Berkeley is notorious for larding the ballot with local measures..
