ALAMEDA COUNTY DEMOCRATS
—ME, MYSELF, AND I—Alameda County Democrats held a wake-like central committee meeting on Wednesday night to lament the result of the presidential election, and the recall of Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price.
—Alameda County Democrats later adjourned the meeting in memory of the chairperson’s grandfather, musician Quincy Jones, and veterans.
—The meeting was also adjourned to “acknowledge the legacy of the first African American district attorney of Alameda County,” Pamela Price
—Who made the motion? Pamela Price.
—Price’s maudlin statement also serves as an acknowledgment of the recall campaign’s success.
—BLAMING ERIC & GAVIN—The roles of Rep. Eric Swalwell and Gov. Gavin Newsom in fomenting support for the recall of DA Pamela Price was also on central committee members’ minds.
—“We had a congressmember from Alameda County who spoke out against our district attorney, attacked her, is suing her, and not once did the county party stand up for her,” central committee member Paola Laverde said, referring to Swalwell.
—“There needs to be consequences for Eric Swalwell, for Gavin Newsom,” central committee member Desmond Jeffries added.
—Crypto investors, landlords, and other groups are trying to dismantle progressive causes in Alameda County, said Pamela Drake, a long-time central committee member.
—“We have to be aware of who the specific enemies are,” Drake said. “Eric Swalwell doesn’t have our interests at heart. It’s really sad that that man can get elected,” Drake added.
—There was little consensus about how the recalls of Price and Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao could have been avoided or quelled.
—Andrea Luna Bocanegra argued the central committee should have lobbied county supervisors early on to stop the recall rather than focus on resolutions opposing the recalls.
—“We have set a precedent. Now people are going to start using recalls against our candidates. You guys don’t realize what just happened. This is going to be a domino effect because we were silent.” Instead, Bocanegra added, “we wrote a silly resolution.”
