COUNTY NEWS
ALAMEDA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
—MESSAGE FROM PAM-A-LAGO—Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price again attacked a Superior Court judge’s integrity and the local media in a stunning video posted on Wednesday meant to set the record straight following a string of controversies in her office and in the courtroom.
—Price reiterated a statement from a week ago describing misinformation in the public about several ongoing criminal cases, while accusing some members of the media for peddling the alleged falsehoods.
—Earlier on Wednesday, county prosecutors in the case of Delonzo Logwood, who is accused of participating in three murders, attempted to remove Alameda County Superior Court Judge Mark McCannon from the case. Logwood’s attorney also made the same request. Both were denied by MCannon.
—Later, Price spoke out against McCannon in a highly unusual video posted online by the DA’s office. In the video Price said she will seek to disqualify McCannon from hearing any criminal cases going forward that involve the DA’s office.
—“Judge Mark McCannon overstepped his boundaries as a judicial officer and has created a firestorm of prejudicial comments that do not, in my opinion, serve justice,” Price said. “The judge is supposed to be an impartial referee, managing cases that come before him. Because of Judge McCannon’s inappropriate comments and conduct on two separate occasions.”
—Last month, McCannon criticized Price’s office for seeking a plea deal with Logwood that, with time served, could have potentially amounted to only two more years in prison. McCannon, instead, ordered the case to trial.
—JASPER WU CASE—On Thursday, Price posted another video, this one to address the case involving the death of 23-month-old Jasper Wu, who was killed by a stray bullet while traveling on the freeway.
—Price said misinformation is dividing the community, before adding, her office has received racist messages that are “unprecedented.”
