Prop. 50 wins statewide, South County voters approve Measure B

PROPOSITION 50

—TRUMPED—California voters delivered a major rebuke to President Trump, and Alameda County voters did their part in overwhelmingly backing Proposition 50 on Tuesday night.

—The proposition led by Gov. Gavin Newsom to potentially add five congressional seats to the Democrats’ column next year is a rebuke of a similar move by Texas Republicans to additional GOP seats.

—Nearly 65 percent of California voters supported Proposition 50, as of late Tuesday night.

—In deep blue Alameda County, support for Proposition 50 was far more robust with nearly 80 percent in support of the temporary redistricting plan.

—Turnout in Alameda County is currently 30 percent, but expected to be higher once all vote by mail ballots are counted.

MEASURE B

—PROGNOSIS IS VERY GOOD—Voters in Fremont, Union City, and Newark overwhelmingly backed the citizens-led Measure B parcel tax to fund operations at Washington Hospital on Tuesday night.

—Nearly 65 percent of south county voters supported Measure B, according to results updated by the Alameda County Registrar’s Office at 10:30 p.m.

—Measure B needed only a simple majority for passage, and was bolstered by nearly $1 million in spending.

—The measure will deliver much needed operational funding for the hospital, estimated to be $13 million annually over the next 12 years through a five cent per square foot parcel tax on new building residential and commercial properties.
