ELECTION 2022
ALAMEDA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
—GETTING PERSONAL—A push poll conducted in recent days is gauging voters’ opinion about an incident involving the son of one of the candidates in this June’s Alameda County District Attorney primary race.
—The push poll asks voters their opinion of current Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley and their thoughts about candidates for DA that are supported by police organizations.
—But the telephone survey also asks about a incident involving Chase Wiley, the son of Alameda County DA candidate Terry Wiley. Chase Wiley was accused in 2017 of firing a rifle at Solano County sheriff’s deputies in Benicia, , according to multiple news reports. Chase Wiley was injured when deputies returned fire
—Police arrived at Chase Wiley’s home for a felony probation check. The push poll included a question about whether Terry Wiley should have known there was a gun in the house, according to a voter who participated in the push poll over the phone.
—The possibility of this potential hit against Wiley’s campaign has been bandied about political insiders and members of law enforcement for at least the past month.
—It’s unclear which campaign is potentially readying a late attack on Wiley. It’s unlikely to be DA candidate Seth Steward, who has gone to great lengths to portray his candidacy as being outside the fray of this brutal primary campaign. This leaves DA candidates Jimmie Wilson and Pamela Price. Both candidates have levied aggressive rhetoric against Wiley for months. A well-funded Independent Expenditure Committee in support of Price’s campaign could also be a suspect.
