COUNTY NEWS
—INTERVIEW DAY—The most pivotal moment in the appointment for the next district attorney of Alameda County arrive this afternoon. The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will interview seven applicants to replace recalled DA Pamela Price, starting at 1:30 p.m.
—Based on last week’s whittling down process, the top three candidates are Contra Costa County Assistant DA Annie Esposito, California Deputy Attorney General Venus Johnson, and Alameda County Superior Court Judge Ursula Jones Dickson.
—Click below for the entire list of applicants scheduled to be interviewed this afternoon:
—Esposito, also a former Alameda County prosecutor, was the only applicant to receive first round votes from all five county supervisors during last week’s culling process.
—Johnson, however, is believed to the odds-on favorite following an extensive lobbying effort by her boss, California Attorney General Rob Bonta.
—We breakdown the Alameda County DA appointment process in the latest episode of the East Bay Insiders Podcast:
—The Board of Supervisors will return for a special meeting on Jan. 28 to deliberate and make the appointment. That person is scheduled to be sworn in on Feb. 4.
—The next DA will serve through 2026. To complete the remainder of Price’s term through 2028, the appointee will have to run for the seat in the 2026 June Primary.
