'Respond with power, not panic'
Alameda County Democratic Party urges elected officials to 'reiterate and stand firm' in support of sanctuary cities; County supervisor does not envision suing PFAS polluters

—The Alameda County Democratic Party issued a stern denunciation of President Trump and his handling of protests in Los Angeles, asserting he’s “unleashed the military and police against our people, terrorizing civilians who dare to stand up and speak out.”
In the statement issued on Monday morning, the local party called on Bay Area elected officials to “reiterate and stand firm” in support of sanctuary cities, of which seven reside in Alameda County.
“As we brace and prepare for any escalation of Trump’s authoritarian, xenophobic, and illegal tactics that may come to the Bay, we are reminding everyone to respond with power, not panic,” according to the statement.
Labor unions, including Alameda Labor Council, SEIU, and other groups will meet at 6 p.m. today at the Fruitvale Plaza in Oakland for “The Bay Stands with L.A.” Community Interfaith Vigil.
A number of planned “No Kings” rallies and marches are scheduled for Saturday, including Alameda, Berkeley, Oakland, San Leandro, Dublin, and Fremont.

A sign emerged on Monday after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi filed a lawsuit against the Palestinian-owned Jerusalem Coffee House in Oakland, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
In an incident that went viral last fall, the owner of the coffee shop on Telegraph Avenue asked two customers to leave because they were wearing caps with the Star of David.
