SAN LEANDRO
—STATE OF THE CRINGEY—Last night’s San Leandro state of the city address was…just watch the video.
—San Leandro Mayor Juan Gonzalez may have been thrown off by underwhelming attendance at Tuesday’s state of the city and his perception that those who did attend were less than enthusiastic.
—Gonzalez used the same call-and-response device at last year’s state of the city. It was equally strange, but had a more religious revival feel. Gonzalez, in fact, plays guitar at St. Leander’s Catholic Church.
—Last night’s version, though, felt more like an overly perky sales seminar that had its darkly sardonic moments. “Are you ready to lift up San Leandro?” he told the audience. “Then say it.”
—Either way, Gonzalez’s performance is going to be the talk of the county.
