ELECTION 2024
—WEEKEND UPDATE—All Alameda County and local ballot measures appear on their way to victory, as of the latest update on Friday evening.
—The nearly clean sweep by mainstream Democratic candidates for the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee is holding firm.
—How many ballots remain to be counted? 🤷♂️
—The Alameda County Registrar of Voters office has not reported the number of unprocessed ballots to the California Secretary of State’s office since Thursday evening.
—Here’s some of the East Bay’s high-profile and closest primary contests.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Board of Supervisors - 5th District (Berkeley-Oakland-Emeryville-Albany)
Nikki Fortunato Bas 10,433 29.2 (+1.0)
John Bauters 7,526 21.08% (+1.9)
Ben Bartlett 6,304 17.6% (-0.5)
Chris Moore 3,771 10.6% (-0.1)
Ken Berrick 3,684 10.3% (+0.9)
Lorrel Plimier 1,670 4.7%
Greg Hodge 1,464 4.1%
Omar Farmer 678 1.9%
Gerald Pechenuk 175 0.5%
—Bas’ lead in the 5th supervisorial district is slowly expanding at the same time that Bauters, currently sitting in the second spot for a November runoff, is also widening his margin over Bartlett.
STATE SENATE
7th District (Berkeley-Richmond-Oakland-Alameda)
Jesse Arreguin-D 33,403 33.0% (+1.3)
Dan Kalb-D 16,264 16.1% (-0.8)
Jovanka Beckles-D 14,953 14.8% (+1.0)
Kathryn Lybarger-D 14,119 14.0% (+0.6)
Sandre Swanson-D 11,354 11.2% (-0.4)
Jeanne Solnordal-R 11,031 10.9% (-1.6)
—Arreguin now has one-third of the primary vote, while Kalb’s lead over Beckles and Lybarger continues to shrink. Beckles’ rise is aided by voters in the Contra Costa County portion of the district. She is former Richmond councilmember.
5th District (San Joaquin County-Livermore-Dublin-Pleasanton-Sunol)
Jim Shoemaker-R 38,993 43.6% (-0.7)
Jerry McNerney-D 29,181 32.6% (+0.6))
Carlos Villapudua-D 21,273 23.8% (+0.1)
—Republican Jim Shoemaker’s electoral performance in the 5th State Senate District primary appears to be running strong not only in the conservative San Joaquin County, but also the Tri-Valley in Alameda County.
—Shoemaker, a underfunded candidate whose ballot designation lists him as a trucker, leads Democrat Jerry McNerney by more than three points in Alameda County, 38.9 percent to 35.4 percent, as of Sunday.
—Shoemaker’s performance is even stronger in San Joaquin County, which account for the majority of the district. He holds a nearly 13-point advantage over McNerney, his almost certain opponent in November
9th District (Contra Costa County-San Leandro-Castro Valley-San Lorenzo)
Tim Grayson-D 76042 62.2% (-1.6)
Marisol Rubio-D 46,195 37.8% (+1.6)
—Grayson and Rubio will meet again in November. Rubio has whittled away some of Grayson’s advantage, but his lead is still huge.
—The San Leandro and unincorporated Alameda County areas of the mostly Contra Costa County district, is providing better results for Rubio.
—She trails Grayson by around eight points in Alameda County. Not a surprising result since these areas tend to be more liberal than some of the CoCo parts of the new 9th District.
