Thao, Price, and beers
The A's schooled Thao, too; Price charges her opponent; Alameda CM opposes housing project because of taproom; Adam Schiff is coming to Dublin this weekend, and more.

—A’S OWNED THE MAYOR, TOO—The awful handling of the mayor’s pay increase by Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao is a reminder why it wasn’t a good idea for her to meet earlier this month with Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred.
—We don’t know whether the meeting in Seattle prior to the MLB All-Star Game did any good or harm.
—But we do know Oakland Councilmember Janani Ramachandran easily outwitted Thao and her allies by forcing the mayor to accept a significantly lower pay increase.
—The events this week are a reminder that it’s not the first time Thao has been played during his first six months in office.
—When the A’s announced last April that they had a land deal for a potential ballpark in Las Vegas, Thao acknowledged a rumor going around Oakland City Hall that she had agreed to avoid mentioning the ballpark issue in the media.
—Thao also complied with an ask by the A’s to not to initiate contact with Manfred.
—The reason for the A’s request may have been a response to former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s penchant for keeping the ballpark issue front and center in the local news.
—Thao honored the team’s request and, in hindsight, she gave the A’s cover to focus without any impediments on Las Vegas.
