Trump is already imperiling Alameda County with latest moves and threats
The fears of Alameda County and city officials are becoming a reality, despite preparations for Trump 2.0

—On Tuesday, the Berkeley City Council reaffirmed its sanctuary city status in the wake of Trump second inauguration.
—On Wednesday, the Trump administration made a move, in addition to comments about sanctuary cities, that will make some East Bay officials pause.
The U.S. Department of Justice ordered prosecutors to investigate local officials who interfere with the Trump administration’s new policies on illegal immigration.
Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda Hayward, San Leandro, Emeryville, and Albany are sanctuary cities. Fremont and Union City, instead, use the phrase “compassionate city,” and Alameda County is a sanctuary county.
It’s not clear how the directive can be applied. Sanctuary cities resolutions in Alameda County do not compel local officials to stop U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from doing their work.
Instead, the resolutions direct local law enforcement and city employees to not help ICE.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta called the directive a “scare tactic,” but the threat might be effective in the East Bay…
