ELECTION 2022
Days until Election Day: 55.
ALAMEDA COUNTY DEMOCRATS
—PIVOTAL WEEKEND AHEAD—Oakland’s mayoral Big 3 candidates will go head-to-head on Saturday afternoon with the prize being the much sought-after Alameda County Democratic Party endorsement.
—The nearly day-long endorsement meeting includes candidates Sheng Thao, Loren Taylor, and Treva Reid, along with Allyssa Victory Villanueva, as the day’s main event. The short endorsement forum is scheduled for 2:40 p.m. on Saturday at the Teamsters Hall in Oakland. (See Saturday’s schedule below.)
—The most likely outcome is no endorsement, but if one of the Big 3 can snag the party’s backing, it will be a big get in a race that currently appears to be a dead heat.
—Meanwhile, in the spring, Alameda County Democrats did not issue an endorsement in the contentious District Attorney campaign. But with the race down to two candidates this fall the matter is back in the party’s hands. Will they endorse Pamela Price or Terry Wiley is a big question to be answered this weekend.
—San Leandro mayoral candidates Bryan Azevedo and Lee Thomas are up for the party’s endorsement on Saturday, but not fellow Democrat Juan Gonzalez. Like Oakland’s mayoral race, San Leandro’s matchup is also a dead heat.
—No matter who the party ultimately choose to endorse for the Oakland school board in District 4, it won’t be incumbent school boardmember Mike Hutchinson. Instead, the party will either back challenger Pecolia Hudson-Manigo or offer no endorsement on Saturday.
—Some other Alameda County incumbents are also being called to the carpet on Saturday. In the Berkeley District 1 City Council race, incumbent Councilmember Rashi Kesarwani and challenger Elisa Mitiken will vie for the party endorsement.
—Peralta Community College Board Director Cindi Reiss and challenger Saleem Gilmore will face-off on Saturday. Fremont District 3 Councilmember Jenny Kassan will be interviewed on Saturday, but her two challengers will not be considered for the endorsement.
—Here’s the mayoral, city council, school board, and down ballot candidates that have already virtually sealed the Alameda County Democratic Party’s sought-after endorsement for the November election. Each candidate below will be approved on consent Saturday morning:
