—THE MONEY RACE—Three state Senate seats are up-for-grabs in the East Bay this March. Campaign finance reports for the last half of 2023 and the first pre-primary reporting period through Jan. 20 reveal less than impressive fundraising efforts.

—Below are cash on hand totals reported by candidates in the 7th State Senate District that includes Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, Alameda; the 5th District, that includes the Tri-Valley and San Joaquin County; and the 9th District, that includes San Leandro, Castro Valley, and Contra Costa County.
