PRICE RECALL
—O IS FOR OUT—Former Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley will announce her support for the recall of current DA Pamela Price at a press conference this morning.
—O’Malley is expected to deliver strong criticisms of Price’s nearly two-year tenure and defend her own record as district attorney from 2010 through 2022.
—O’Malley and Price faced-off in an acrimonious campaign for DA in 2018, which O’Malley won by nearly 20 points. O’Malley did not run for re-election in 2022. Price defeated Terry Wiley in the November 2022 runoff.
—Despite O’Malley not in the 2022 campaign, Price essentially ran against her record and policies, often denigrating O’Malley in the process. The rhetoric continued throughout Price’s brief time as DA, even to this day.
—A campaign video by Protect the Win for Public Safety, the committee opposing the recall, features Price blaming O’Malley’s office for many of the problems facing the current regime.
—Until today, O’Malley has remained mostly silent despite Price’s constant attacks. The silence may have been part of the strategy.
—Similar to the predicament that faced the Oakland police union, engaging in a public war of words with Price was seen as providing her with the upper hand. Price could then make any public safety issue about the Oakland Police Department and not her own.
—Rep. Eric Swalwell and all 13 police unions in Alameda County have also endorsed the Price recall.
