PRICE RECALL
—BYPASSING BONTA—In a Feb. 28 letter, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price’s issued a plea to California Attorney General Rob Bonta to investigate the recall campaign threatening to remove her from office.
—Price’s campaign says Bonta ignored her request.
—At an often peculiar press conference on Monday morning, the campaign opposing the recall said it will instead appeal to the U.S. Department of Justice.
—But not before disparaging Bonta.
—“Today is March 18, we have not heard anything from Attorney General Rob Bonta or his office,” said William Fitzgerald, a spokesperson for Protect the Win, the campaign opposing the recall.
— “This isn’t a thing of thing you can wait six months for. Democracy is currently being tested in Alameda County.”
—“Because of that dereliction of duty from California Attorney General Rob Bonta,” Fitzgerald added, “we are escalating our demand and asking the U.S. Department of Justice Northern District.”
—Protect the Win said they are asking Ismail Ramsey, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District, to investigate the following:
Claims that petitions were left at unmanned tables.
The use of out-of-county and out-of-state signature gatherers.
Bait-and-switch tactics to falsely attract prospective signers.
—The claims are not new and have been raised by Price’s campaign and others on social media for several months.
—As laid out here many times, there is no love lost between Bonta and Price over the years.
—It’s common knowledge that if Bonta had not received the AG appointment, he would have ran to replace former Alameda County DA Nancy O’Malley, and likely would have faced off with Price in the 2022 election.
